from Luke 2:1-20
The season of Advent is over. The One for Whom we have been waiting is here. Hope in the midst of despair. Peace in the midst of chaos. Joy in the face of the challenges of life. Love that is redeeming and renewing this world. Jesus. The One Who has come. The One Who is coming. And in His coming is a call…a call to experience the Hope, the Peace, the Joy, and the Love that He offers…it is a call Home.

from Matthew 1:18-25
The season of Advent is an invitation to pause. An invitation to wait…with expectation for what is to come. More specifically, it is an invitation to slow down and wait and watch and listen for WHO is to come. It is Hope in despair. It is Peace in the midst of chaos. It is Joy in the face of the challenges of life. And it is Love that is redeeming and renewing this world. And at the center of all of these promises is Jesus. The One Who has come. The One Who is coming. And in His coming is a call…a call to experience the Hope, the Peace, the Joy, and the Love that He offers…it is a call Home.

from Psalm 95
Jesus promises peace. He tells His disciples not to fear. Yet, the world in which we live offers no shortage of reasons to be anxious, afraid, and frustrated. These responses to the reality of the brokenness in this world are not new. Humanity has been bearing this weight since sin entered the world, and the promises of God’s presence have been there since the start.
For these three weeks we will look at the Psalms, the prayer book of God’s people, and consider what God’s promises and presence might mean for us in a world full of anxiety…perhaps rather than focus on our reasons for worry, we might adopt instead a posture of peace.

Not only is the journey of discipleship one in which connection to Jesus is vital, but the outward working of the experience of being welcomed into that relationship with Him must begin to shape our new identity.
Over the course of this series, along with the “Because We Care” Generosity Initiative we are beginning as a church family, you are invited to consider not only the posture of your life before Christ, but the position of your life in relation to what He is doing in this world and in and through the life of our church.
As we journey together through these 5 weeks, we will be challenged to consider what our lives might begin to look like as they become a clearer reflection of the life-saving generous life of Jesus!

In a world that promises maximum return for minimum investment, it is no wonder that we often find ourselves frustrated in our walk with Jesus when it seems like growth doesn’t come easily .
Over the course of this series we will be see that the journey of discipleship is, to use a term from Eugene Peterson, “a long obedience in the same direction.” It is a daily seeking the heart of Jesus, a daily denial of self, a daily renewal of the mind…
And as we will see from the life of Peter, there is grace for entire journey. When we stumble-there is grace. When we think and act selfishly-there is grace…from beginning to end, there is grace for the Journey of Discipleship. What is the next step on the journey that Jesus is calling you to make?
