(January 31, 2021) “The Kingdom: Good Soil”

from Matthew 13:1-8, 18-23

Perhaps one of our greatest challenges in living faithfully in this world, is not that God’s instruction or God’s Word is not good…it’s that we allow the soil of our hearts to entertain any number of other forces that make it difficult for the Word to bear fruit within us.

Regardless the condition of the soil of your heart, there is ALWAYS HOPE!

(October 11, 2020) “Reimagining Church: The Role of Scripture”

from 2 Timothy 3:10-17 and Hebrews 4:12-13

There are times that God is faithful to grant us those mountain top experiences…those times that we experience His presence and power in tangible ways. While those moments are a gift, while they stir our faith in important ways…the reality is, life is not lived in those perpetual mountaintop experiences.

The early believers experienced some life-changing moments with the Lord, but they also faced unbelievable challenges…what was it that sustained them…that kept them rooted in the face of such difficulty.

It was their commitment to Scripture…their willingness to remain connected to God through His Word.

(August 25, 2019) “Ambitious Church: Scripture”

from 2 Timothy 3:14-17 and James 1:21-23

Our relationship with Scripture can tend to be difficult to define depending on the season of life we are in, or depending on how we feel like we have been treated “in the name of the Bible.”

What if we no longer approached Scripture asking what it can do FOR us, but instead began to approach Scripture asking what it can do IN us?

What if you were willing to open it, to interact with it, to rest, to listen, to seek…in a brand new way? Imagine what might change.

“You Asked For It: How Do I Read Scripture?” (August 28, 2016)

from Hebrews 4:12-16

It is one of the most enduring works in all of history…and yet can be one of the most frustrating.

It is held as being central to the Christian faith…and yet can be one some of the most frustrating words with which to engage.

If you’ve ever become frustrated or fed up or confused and simply put the Bible down and walked away…you’re invited to take a new perspective.  What if your expectation of God’s Word shifted?  Instead of asking what God has for you in His Word, what if you began approaching it asking how your life might fit in to it?

“Rhythms: Scripture” (March 6, 2016)

from Matthew 4:1-4 and 2 Timothy 3:10-17

You know the saying, “You are what you eat.”  The idea being, what you eat affects your health and your life in general.

In Jesus’ temptation to turn stones to bread, He responds by saying that it is not bread alone that we need to survive…rather it is God’s Word that truly sustains us and gives us life…the question is, are we consuming God’s Word the way Jesus suggests?

Imagine what might change in your life if God’s voice began to overpower the voices that tend to vie for your attention…
